Breast Reduction in Iran: All You Need to Know

While having healthy ample breasts are considered a sign of fitness and attractiveness in women, unreasonably large breasts are not much desired.

Some women with extremely heavy breasts experience health and emotional problems such as chronic back and neck pain, difficulty in doing physical activities and loss of self-confidence. Breast reduction, despite what it brings to the mind, is not merely a cosmetic surgery, but a surgery with medical purposes.

Considering the high cost of this surgery, choosing a country with low-cost yet effective breast reduction surgery would help you put an end to all your problems. Iran can be one of the options. And here we’re going to navigate your way through this decision and give you all you need to know about ‘breast reduction in Iran’.

WHAT IS BREAST REDUCTION?

For overly large breasts, there is breast reduction surgery or reduction mammoplasty: a surgical procedure aimed at reducing the size of abnormally large breasts to make them proportional to the body.

In this surgery, the excess fat is removed from the patient’s breasts. Although the surgery is classified as cosmetic surgery, people, to a great extent, opt for this surgery due to medical complications like neck and back pain they face.

REASONS TO CHOOSE IRAN AS YOUR BREAST REDUCTION DESTINATION

Whether to travel to another country for your breast surgery may be a tough decision to make. However, when it comes to undergoing the surgery with the same level of quality but affordable price, it would be reasonable if you travel to a country with an excellent reputation like Iran.

Today, Iran’s advances in medical services together with the Iranian surgeons’ expertise offers reliable solutions to many people suffering from body deformities. The country stands out among the top 10 countries performing plastic surgeries with the highest rate of nose surgery in the world. So, the country’s reaching front line of medical tourism in the world especially in the field of plastic surgeries.

Plastic surgeries including breast reduction are done with a high percentage of success and safety. This is because the country embraces a powerful society of board-certified and proficient plastic surgeons who not only have gained up-to-date knowledge of their field of specialization but also are equipped with many years of experience and proven records of successful surgeries.

As mentioned earlier, a strong reason making people flock to Iran lies behind the fact that everything in Iran is cheaper than anywhere in the world, from accommodation and travel services to healthcare services.

Last but not least, this country has caught the eyes of many people for the exotic tourism experience it offers, being ranked among the 52 must-go places in 2019 by The New York Times. The reasons include, but are not limited to, the great history, rich culture, unique architecture, superb cuisine, and most-importantly warm-hearted people.

COST OF BREAST REDUCTION IN IRAN

Cost is one of the most important factors people may or may not decide to go with breast reduction surgery. The fact is that not everyone is born with a silver spoon in their mouth. So, a country offering high-quality treatment with affordable prices would work for anyone considering breast surgery.

Given the high exchange rate of dolloar against Iranian rial, the country now offers cost-effective medical treatment/services. You can have your breast reduction surgery done in Iran for around $2,500-$4,000. This cost includes all the medical related fees such as the surgeon’s fee, hospital fee, anesthesia, post-op follow-ups and the like.

HOW IS BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY PERFORMED IN IRAN?

Breast reduction procedure usually starts with getting general anesthesia to put the patient in sleep during the surgery. The surgeon will then make a circular incision around the breast nipples. The incision will be continued downward to reach the breast crease. Subsequently, excessive fat, tissue, and skin will be removed from the breasts.

If the patient’s breasts are extremely large, the nipples will be removed and reattached to the breast. Otherwise, the nipples will remain attached but re-positioned. Finally, the incisions will be stitched and brought up together.

The operation typically takes about 2-3 hours depending on different factors including the operation techniques and the breasts anatomy. Generally, the surgery itself is a walk in walk out procedure, meaning that patients are allowed to go home on the same day of the surgery

After the operation, the breasts will be covered with dressings. Two plastic tubes may be attached to your breasts to take out the extra fluid/blood. This may last for one or two days.

Different stages of breast reduction surgery

What to Expect after Breast Reduction Surgery?

Every surgery has a recovery period during which you have to follow certain instructions to properly recover from it. For breast surgery, the recovery process takes around 2-6 weeks. During this period, you’d be recommended not to do serious physical activities.

First Few Weeks after Surgery

During this period, you may have some swelling and bruising, but they will usually subside in a few weeks. Stitches are also removed within 1-2 weeks after the operation.

You should wear an elastic bandage or a special surgical bra (a bandeau) over gauze and dressings for two or three days after the surgery. The gauze and dressings will be removed after this period, while you will need to continue wearing the surgical bra for the next weeks.

Most patients are able to return to work after 2-3 weeks, depending on their professions. However, they are not allowed to do physical activities like heavy lifting until full recovery.

Moreover, patients are recommended to avoid sexual activity during the first few weeks, as it may cause inflammation around the incisions.

First Few Months after Surgery

During 4-6 weeks after the surgery, any contact with the breasts should be gentle. Plus, during the first menstrual period after the surgery, patients’ breasts may swell and become tender. Patients may also experience some level of pain.

There may be some temporary side effects during the first few months. They include altered sensations of the nipples and breast skin, numbness (in some women), and hypersensitivity of the breast area.

As the breast tissue is greatly involved in this procedure, the ensuing swelling will take up to one year to subside. So, you may need to wait until then to see the final results.

Breast reduction and lift

As can be inferred, reduction mammoplasty usually involves a breast lift as well. This is when the breasts are significantly heavy and pendulous and need to be lifted, as they lose a significant amount of fat and tissue during the reduction operation. In this case, the surgeon both removes excess fat and tissue from your breasts and repositions your nipples so that they are lifted.

Is Reduction Mammoplasty Worth It?

‘I feel like a new person’: this is what Ariel Winter, American actress, tells about having a breast reduction surgery. She decided to go through this surgery as she was suffering from back pain. But, is breast reduction really worth it?

Breast reduction surgery relieves all the pains resulted from large breasts, bringing you back to a normal life with no more restrictions. This is the first and foremost gift of reduction mammoplasty.

Another factor encouraging people to go through this surgery is that it enhances self-confidence/satisfaction. Breast reduction improves patients’ life in terms of physical and psychological health and well-being.

A study on the outcomes of plastic surgeries shows that this procedure has improved quality of life more than any other cosmetic procedures.

With all being said, potential complications are an inevitable part of any surgery. For reduction mammoplasty, there is bleeding, swelling, bruising, scarring, infection, adverse reaction to the anesthesia, loss of sensation in the nipples, and difficulty in breastfeeding.

However, looking on the bright side, these side effects/complications are rare and often temporary. They also subside during the first year after the surgery.

In the end, although we believe the moon lives in the lining of your skin, deciding to get rid of physical and psychological distresses imposed by your body deformities would help you create a better ‘you’.

Frequently Asked Questions about Breast Reduction Surgery

You are a candidate for this breast surgery if:

  • You suffer from chronic back, neck and shoulder pain as a result of your heavy breasts
  • Chronic rash and skin irritation under your breasts are hurting you
  • Your physical activities are restricted because of your too big bust
  • You have difficulty fitting into bras and clothes
  • You have lost your self-confidence and feel embarrassed as a result of your unreasonably large breasts

You’ll need to consult a doctor before considering the surgery if:

  • You are a smoker;
  • You have certain conditions such as heart problems or diabetes or are very obese; or
  • Your breasts aren’t yet fully developed (you might need a second surgery later in life).

It is recommended that you postpone your surgery in the following conditions:

  • Childbirth: If you are going to get pregnant, you should be aware that breastfeeding might be a challenge after this surgery — although there are certain surgical techniques that help you preserve your ability to breastfeed.
  • Weight loss: If you plan to lose weight by starting a diet and exercising, you might wait until you reach your ideal weight to see if your breasts are still too large. Weight loss often results in breast size reduction.

The surgery is a pain-free one as you’ll be put to sleep during the operation. But you will start to feel pain and discomfort as the numbing effect of anesthesia goes away. The pain may last for a few days and you can use medications in case of severe pain.

Just like breast augmentation surgery, reduction involves the risk of scarring. As the scars are located in the lower part of your breasts, they are not visible when you are not naked. They also start to fade away as the time passes so that no one will notice you had surgery unless you mention it yourself.

I have very big boobs and i’m looking for ways to reduce my breast size and also have them a bit lifted without surgery. Considering i’m still 20 years old, is it possible that exercise elevates my breasts and also decreases their size?

Exercise can lead to weight loss and reduction of fat tissue in different parts of the body including breasts so it is possible that your breasts get smaller as a result of exercise.
However, the reduction of fatty tissue can not lift your breasts and bring a perky appearance. In some cases, it can even lead to more sagging.
Therefore, you won’t get the desired result through exercise. A breast lift (mastopexy) is the only option for tightening and elevating the breasts which is a surgical procedure to remove the extra skin and lift the nipple position. You can also benefit from breast reduction surgery to achieve the smaller size you desire by removing some breast tissue, fat, and skin.

I am fed up with my big breasts as they look extremely huge on my slim body. I could really use some good advice about breast reduction, preferably not surgical. I’ve been hearing about breast reduction pills and creams. Do they really work or are they just false advertisements?

No. there are no pills or creams to help with breast reduction. I understand your concern, but please don’t get your hopes up about such medications. Not only do they not bring satisfactory results, but also they could come with side effects and disrupt your hormone system.
Therefore, I recommend you stay away from such hormone-based or so-called magic herbal medications. General weight loss and size decrease can also contribute to the smaller size of breasts, however, considering you’re slim, weight loss can not be an option for you. The only way to reduce the breast size is breast reduction surgery through which a considerable amount of breast tissue could be removed and lead to a smaller size of the breast as you desire.
I recommend you visit a trusted board-certified plastic surgeon and discuss your concerns.

My breasts are both big and saggy. I was wondering if a breast reduction surgery can also lift them as well as reduce the size. Is this true or do i need to undergo two procedures; a breast reduction and a breast lift?

Depending on the technique, a breast reduction can also lift the breasts, so it can bring about the benefits of both; lifted smaller breasts.
This result is achieved when a part of breast tissue and skin are also removed as well as the fat which causes the breasts to sit higher on the chest and the nipple-areolar complex will be lifted as well.
Therefore, a separate procedure, breast lift or mastopexy (removing excess skin), won’t be necessary. However, if breast reduction is done only through liposuction to reduce the fat mass, it won’t help with lifting breasts and it may even contribute to more sagging.

I had breast reduction surgery 2 years ago and now i feel my breasts are growing back to their previous size. Is it even possible? Does it mean that I have to undergo a revision?

Although very rare, it is possible for the breasts to grow back after the breast reduction surgery, especially in young people whose breasts have not reached maturity yet. While the removed tissue is gone for good, the remained part is capable of growing larger and being affected by different stages of life such as aging, pregnancy, weight gain, and menopause. As already mentioned, this phenomenon is not common but may happen rarely. And yes, you may have revision surgery to reduce the breast size to the desired one and it’s often safe to do so. Yet, in-person consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon can help you best.

What makes breast reduction surgery a medically necessary treatment and not cosmetic so that the insurance will cover it?

While the criteria to cover breast reduction expenses varies from one insurance company to another, generally, medical documentation to prove a failure in treating back, neck, and shoulder pain through diet and exercise and other non-surgical methods such as medication and physical therapy, evidence of wounds, rashes, or grooving resulting from bra straps are required. Moreover, the amount of tissue to be removed from your breasts will be calculated through a formula taking your height and weight into account. Accordingly, the higher weight of the breasts estimated to be reduced, the higher possibility of partial or full insurance coverage. Yet, to get a more precise idea of the insurance coverage, you will need to check your insurance company’s criteria for breast reduction which you’ll probably find on their website.
Note: You should notice that insurance companies have different policies when it comes to having medical/cosmetic treatments abroad and many of them do not cover such treatments. Therefore, if this is your choice, make sure you check it with your insurance provider.
