The aim of the surgery is to pull back and lift up the sagging skin to make it tight, and rejuvenate a tired looking face. In addition to feel and look younger, face lift surgery can also help you increase your self-confidence, apply make up more easily, and also helps you wear clothes with lower necklines.
Types of face lift surgery
Face lift surgery is carried out using three different methods. It is usually done under general anesthesia. Based on your medical condition, your surgeon decides which method leads to the desired result.
The three types of the surgery are as follows:
• Traditional face lift
In this type of surgery, the surgeon makes delicate incisions along the hairline behind the ears. Then, the skin is carefully separated from the underlying tissue. The surgeon repositions excess fat and tightens facial muscles then. The skin is then lifted and stitched into place, and any excess skin is removed. After the surgery, the face will be wrapped in bandages to prevent infection.
• Minimal access cranial suspension (MACS or mini facelift)
This method is similar to the traditional face lift method. They are only different in the size of the incisions. Removing excess fat and tightening of the face in this method is done through tiny incisions.
• Keyhole surgery
In this method the surgeon will make very small incisions on face. Then he/she is able to see the live images displayed on a monitor, so that he can see which muscles need to be tightened.
This type of surgery is one of the most common surgeries carried out for brow lifts and upper face lifts. Though the recovery time is short and there will be less scars compared to others methods, the method is not recommended for everyone.
It is also noted that in most cases, it is recommended to combine face lift surgery with a neck lift surgery to get the best result.
