Recent years has seen the emergence and surge of the field of cosmetic/medical tourism and Iran is considered one of the most suitable options to get a procedure, be it minor or major, done.
For cosmetic procedures like abdominoplasty, this country stands out among other countries for offering affordable and effective treatments. Read on to find out all you need to know about tummy tuck in Iran.
Tummy tuck, otherwise known as abdominoplasty, removes excess fat and skin and, in most cases, restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is flatter, smoother, and firmer.
This procedure helps reduce loose or sagging abdomens caused by heredity, major fluctuations in weight, the aging process, and post-pregnancy stretching.

Having plastic surgery in another country is a recently-introduced phenomenon which grabs people’s attention with a limited budget. This concept has gained much more popularity as patients are getting their cost-effective surgeries done abroad without compromising on the quality and safety of the procedure.
Having access to an abundance of successful and globally-renowned specialists is one of the perks of having plastic surgeries in Iran. The country excels as a perfect abdominoplasty destination for many reasons. They include:
Furthermore, while the language may seem a barrier to most foreigners, the country enjoys a wide spectrum of English-speaking doctors and medical staffs. Therefore, there would be no difficulty in doctor-patient communication and mutual understanding.
Going for plastic surgery like abdominoplasty is a difficult decision, so is choosing the best plastic surgeon for your procedure. Whether you’re considering Iran for the reasonable prices or high-quality medical services, you would definitely want to have surgery under the hands of a skilled Iranian surgeon.
With many years of training and practicing in the field of plastic surgery, Iranian surgeons have got the necessary knowledge and experience to perform the most effective tummy tuck surgeries.
Most Iranian surgeons, if not all, have earned their fellowships and certifications in plastic surgery from top medical universities in Iran and around the globe. Therefore, you can rest assured that you will have a safe treatment for your protruded abdomen with the least possibility of any upcoming complications.
As the cost of abdominoplasty in many countries is going through the roof, more patients are looking elsewhere for this procedure. In this situation, a country like Iran takes the lead, showing up as a cheaper alternative.
An average tummy tuck surgery costs between $2,500 and $4,500 in Iran, depending on the experience of the surgeon, hospital, etc. This price includes almost everything you may need when traveling to the country such as accommodation, transfer, and treatment.
(Please note that this is simply a price range for tummy tuck in Iran. Our prices are usually somewhere near or above the average of this range given our quality of services and the expertise of our surgeons.)
This surgery, however, costs from $3,000 to $30,000 in the US, with most patients paying around $15,000 for the surgery. It also prices from $4,000 to $7,000 in a European country like the UK, while it costs around $5,000 in Turkey and $3,000 in India.
A tummy tuck procedure typically lasts between 2 and 4 hours depending on the degree of your excess skin and fat which need to be removed and the technique used.
An incision is made to the abdomen from hip to hip, along the pubic area or the so-called bikini line. A circular incision is then made around the belly button to free it from the surrounding skin.
After tightening muscles, removing excess fat and skin and pulling down the skin, a new hole is created in the right position for the belly button.
The incisions are finally stitched up with sutures. A dressing or sometimes a compression garment is applied and the excess fluid is drained.
You may also be recommended to have liposuction at the same time to have the most satisfactory outcomes.
After abdominoplasty, whether it’s a minimal or regular one, your recovery lasts from around 1 to 2 weeks. During this period, you’ll experience pain, discomfort, swelling, bruising, and numbness.
A drainage device will be left for a few days in your body, if necessary. Your doctor will give you the instructions regarding how to take care of it when you are at home. To learn about the post-operative instructions during recovery, read the section ‘what to do after tummy tuck procedure’.
As the name suggests, mini tummy tuck refers to less invasive and minimal abdominoplasty.
This procedure is an ideal option for those with a small amount of excess fat and skin in their abdominal area. People whose abdominal area is beginning to sag due to aging or who have slim abdomens may also consider this surgery to sculpt their abdominal profile into a more desirable shape.
In a mini tummy tuck, muscles are tightened and excess skin is removed from below the belly button only. There will be an incision in the lower abdomen but the belly button will not need repositioning.
As mentioned above, a mini tummy tuck is less invasive as it involves less surgery. The recovery process is also faster compared to the time it takes to heal from a full tummy tuck.
Furthermore, a few number of patients are the right candidates for this surgery as it takes away the excess tissue only from under the belly button.
In contrast, full abdominoplasty eliminates a larger amount of excess tissues from both the middle and lower abdominal area. Accordingly, there may be a longer recovery period for those undergoing this surgery.
In order to have better operation and heal faster after the surgery follows these instructions:
After shaping your belly through the surgery, you need to take into considerations the below facts and instructions:
If you want to experience a smooth course of treatment, you need to become an educated patient. By this, you will be aware of the procedure, results, and more importantly risks and complications you may face.
For abdominoplasty, there is bleeding, pain, scarring, swelling, reaction to anesthesia, infection, seroma (fluid accumulation under the skin), and hematoma (blood accumulation).
Generally, major complications like seroma and hematoma occur in a few patients (around 3% of patients) after the surgery. Other complications like pain, swelling and the like do not lead to patient’s dissatisfaction, as they are not permanent and can be minimized.
According to a study on the satisfaction of abdominoplasty patients, 86% of patients were pleased with their surgery, recommending the surgery to their friends. Therefore, this surgery is proven to be a safe and favorable treatment for those who want to get rid of their protruded stomachs.
Am I a candidate for abdominoplasty?
You might consider having a tummy tuck if:
Is tummy tuck painful?
The surgery itself is not painful since the treated area will be numbed during the procedure. After the surgery, you’ll begin to feel pain and discomfort. This pain may become intense during the first days following your surgery. You’ll be allowed to use medications if needed.
Does tummy tuck surgery leave scars?
This surgery leaves a long scar on your body which will gradually fade away. The scarring will not erase completely, but it will blend with your skin tone and texture so that it may not be noticed by other people.
Does abdominoplasty remove stretch marks?
While liposuction is unable to wipe away stretch marks, they can be removed through other procedures. Abdominoplasty is one of them. Laser skin resurfacing and microdermabrasion are also beneficial for removing these marks.
Is tummy tuck permanent?
The results of this treatment are permanent. However, if you become pregnant or gain a significant amount of weight, you may see the excess fat and saggy skin appear again in your abdominal area.

I am 32 years old and have a 3 years old daughter. My abdomen has become loose after i gave birth to my child and I am going to have a tummy tuck soon to make it look better. But I have recently become hesitant and wondered what would happen if i wanted to have another child in the future. Is it possible to get pregnant afterward? If yes, when?
Yes. It is possible to get pregnant after a tummy tuck. But of course, you should wait for a while (at least 12 months) to fully recover before trying to conceive. However, considering that pregnancy makes changes to your body, you’ll probably need touch-ups or a revision procedure after you give birth to your child. That’s why we usually recommend our patients to go through tummy tuck after they have the desired number of children and are not planning for new ones.
I am 172 cm and 78 kilograms. How much weight do i lose after a tummy tuck?
The first thing you should notice is that a tummy tuck is not a weight loss surgery. Instead, it’s a body contouring technique to make the stomach look much more youthful, well-shaped, and firmer by removing extra fat and skin. In fact, many patients choose to undergo a tummy tuck after excessive weight loss. Therefore, while the weight loss reported by most patients after a tummy tuck usually does not exceed 5 pounds, a significant amount of tissue could be removed which could lead to several sizes down. Many patients are willing to lose as much weight as they can before the surgery to maximize their surgery results.
I am 25 days into my tummy tuck surgery, and i still seem to have a lot of swelling, but what concerns me even more, is that the surgery might not have made much of a difference and it is not just swelling. Can you have a good idea of your tummy tuck surgery result at this time or is the swelling still too much?
Yes, it is possible to still have significant swelling. Depending on how extensive your surgery has been, swelling can take 6 to 12 months to subside with the majority of it resolving in 3 months. While wearing compression garments for the first 4-6 weeks can help reduce the swelling, at 25 days you still may have considerable swelling which can distort your surgery result. So, I’d recommend waiting a bit more before you start to worry and judge your result. You can also discuss your concern with your surgeon and they may recommend some lymphatic massage to reduce swelling.
Does a tummy tuck affect the pubic area? It has been a month since i had the tummy tuck surgery and while i still have some swelling, i can see the changes and am happy about the results. Yet what seems to be odd is that my mons pubis is now a few centimeters higher and it generally looks larger than before. Is it gonna get back to normal as i recover?
Yes, a tummy tuck can affect the mons pubis area in several ways. The first thing to be noticed is that the pubic area can be lifted through a tummy tuck especially if a considerable amount of skin is removed during the surgery as the upper and lower flaps need to be pulled together then. However, Some consider this an advantage as the lift is a solution to the saggy pubic mounds after pregnancy. The mons pubis could also be affected by the swelling around the lower incision and is usually the last part where swelling subsides. Therefore, the larger appearance and higher position may be also attributed to the swelling and will get back to normal after you’re fully healed and the swelling vanishes. In either case, I would recommend you wait for a year to fully recover and the swelling goes away. You can then judge your surgery result and how it actually has affected the pubic area. Chances are you won’t find it as high and large as you do now. You may consider a revision procedure if this is still your concern by then. Meanwhile, however, you need to have an in-person visit with your surgeon to make sure the swelling is not related to the fluid collection and your recovery is going smoothly.
What is the shortest time I must wear my compression garment after a tummy tuck? While some patients seem to be liking this, I don’t feel comfortable and would love to get rid of it. Still, I don’t want to slow down my recovery. So, when can I stop wearing it without hurting my healing process?
Patients are usually required to wear their compression garments for at least 4 weeks. However, depending on how extensive the surgery has been, you may need more time (6-8 weeks). Generally, most surgeons insist on extending this period and recommend longer periods. Wearing a binder can help with the healing process, speed up resolving of swelling, and work as a support for the surgical area. If you’re not comfortable with your compression garment, you may need to visit your doctor to make sure you’re using it correctly i.e. it’s tight enough to bring the benefits but not too tight to cause pain, breathing difficulty, or risk of cutting off the blood supply.
